Essex Rivers Hub

Remove Weir and control Mink

There is a weir in this section that should be investigated to see if it can be removed and see if there is a way to deduce the impact on fish migration. This could be achieved by introducing a fish pass or changing the structure of the weir so that migration upstream is still possible.

A Mink was also seen in this area so mink control is needed to allow the Water Vole population to recover or return.

Benefiting species and/or habitats

Removing or reducing the weir will create better migration opportunities for fish so they can expand their range and move areas if food diminishes or pollution occurs. Controlling Mink will allow Water Vole populations to recover and become more prevalent in the area.
