Essex Rivers Hub

Pesti-Wise Initiative

Pesti-wise is an initiative from Essex & Suffolk Water aiming to improve river water quality together.

Water is at the heath of all of our lives. Protecting water in streams and rivers is vital for our future.

The water in many rivers is taken and treated for drinking water supply. Where rivers run through farmland, pesticides can run off from fields and farmyards into the watercourse.

Pesti-wise is about working with farmers and their agronomists to deliver practical guidance and on-farm solutions that help to minimise pesticide run off and support sustainable agriculture. Together we can make sure our drinking water is clean and clear and tastes good; now, and into the future.

Pesti-wise is working specifically in 5 catchments, of which the Roxwell Brook is the catchment based in the Chelmer and Blackwater catchment.

On-farm advice is available through Pesti-wise along with pesticide application training sessions, events and grant funding for infrastructure improvements and precision application machinery.

If you are a farmer in this area or landowner in the Roxwell Brook catchment and are interested in finding out more, please make contact with Teresa Meadows, Chelmer and Blackwater Catchment Advisor on 07792 169545 or at This email address is being protected from spambots.
