Essex Rivers Hub

Improve management of bankside habitat

This area is a public footpath on the north bank and an area of housing on the south bank. This is a nice public walkway. The north bank has good bankside vegetation and the channel has lots of reed and other aquatic plants.

On the south bank the residential gardens extend to the river edge and the grass is kept very short and there are no marginal plants typical of a river habitat found here. If would be nice to work with the home owners to see if they are willing to alter their management of the bankside margins to allow more river based species to develop and change the cutting regime so it isn't cut as often.
