Essex Rivers Hub

Improve habitat for Water Voles

The channel in this section is narrow with steep banks with little in channel and marginal vegetation making this area unsuitable habitat for Water Voles.

Near the former Mount Pleaseant Farm there is a shallow valley between the footpath and river. The habitat is rough grassland with a strip of trees and scrub beside the river.

Some of the flow could be diverted into this valley to create a secondary channel, and create habitat suitable for Water Voles as well as acting as a flood storage area.
