Essex Rivers Hub

Upminster sewage treatment works reed bed

This sewage treatment works has a substantial reed bed close to the bank of the Mardyke which is part of the sewage treatment process

Currently the water flows back into the channel via a sluice that is heavily reinforced. If possible it would be beneficial for the river habitat to have more natural connection between the reed beds and the surrounding land.
