Essex Rivers Hub

Misconnection investigations and education

Misconnections are when toilets, sinks and washing machines are plumbed into the wrong pipe and pump directly into the river rather that throught the sewage treatment works.

This can have a major impact on the river by causing algal blooms which can reduce fish, invertebrate and plant populations and can also result (in severe cases) in a 'dead river' which is devoid of all noticable life.

We would like to introduce a programme to investigate all misconnections so they can be reversed, but this must be combined with education local people on misconnections so they can ensure that their home is correctly plumbed to ensure that less incidences occur in the future.
