Reduce the impact the concrete barrier is having to fish migration

There is a significant concrete structure within the channel which will have an impact on fish migration. This structure involves a large concrete wall with only a small opening for water to flow through and structures that hold back debris.

This structure should be assessed to determine if it is still needed in its current form and how the area can be adapted to allow fish migration to take place. One solution could be to create a connecting adjacent channel which fish could use to bypass the structure; a fish pass.

WFD water body status

Moderate

WFD overall status objective

To achieve Good Ecological status by 2027

Project type

Removing barriers to fish migration

Benefiting species and/or habitats

Improving the structure will improve fish migration both upstream and downstream. This could improve population successes within the brook and the catchment as a whole.

Total area surveyed

Whole of the Prittle Brook
