The River Lea (also spelt Lee) originates in the Chiltern Hills, near Luton in Bedfordshire, meandering through Hertfordshire and the eastern edge of Essex to Greater London before entering the Thames near Tower Hamlets, flowing a total of 74km. The River Lea and its tributaries the Mimram, Beane, Ash, Rib, Quin and Stort are important sources of drinking water, feeding a multitude of reservoirs.
